Cat-eye is the leading look for close-set eyes — flared outer corners visually separate the eyes — with outward-shifted squirrel and natural sets as the softer options. The looks first; the spacing-modifier builds, and why they all run outward, below.

The shape under the looks
The looks above are built on the geometry below. Tap a drawing for the reasoning.
The shape — close-set eyes+ why− close
Close-Set Eyes, before any extensions. The lid itself is usually a standard shape — the defining trait is spacing: less than one eye-width between the eyes.
Why this build works on close-set eyes
Two rules do the work. Inner corners stay short and light — any inner weight narrows the gap further — and the peak of the base map shifts one zone outward. That is why cat-eye leads close-set corrections in studio orders: flared outer corners visually separate the eyes. Doll mapping, useful on wide-set clients, does nothing for close-set spacing; artists pick cat or squirrel instead.
The build — sample map+ how− close
Every look above is built from a zone map like this one — the zone structure of this shape’s natural-classic map, inner to outer, from our mapping matrix — charted natively for close-set, as are cat, squirrel and wispy; only doll is charted on the wide-set base and mirrors outward to it. Exact lengths, curls and thickness unlock in the Style Matcher below. This is one of fifteen maps we chart for this shape; the full set covers all five effects across classic, hybrid and volume.

Neutral for spacing — it neither helps nor hurts a close-set gap, so artists usually pick an outward map instead.

- Is close-set a separate eye shape for lash mapping?
- No — like wide-set, it is a spacing modifier over the client’s base shape. The base map is chosen first, then its peak shifts one zone outward and inner corners stay light.
- Which style corrects close-set spacing?
- Cat-eye leads — flared outer corners move visual weight outward and separate the eyes. Squirrel with an outward-shifted peak is the softer alternative.
- What must be avoided on close-set eyes?
- Inner-corner weight of any kind — long inner lengths, inner spikes or heavy inner curls all pull the eyes visually closer together.
