Lash Extension Thickness Guide: What Each Diameter Is For

Thickness is the diameter of a single extension in millimetres. It decides three things at once: how heavy the lash is on the natural lash, how dark the line reads, and how many lashes a fan can hold before it is too heavy for safe retention. That is why volume work moves to thinner lashes and classic work stays thicker.

Lines column reflects the diameters listed on each product page: classic 0.10–0.20 · volume 0.02–0.07 · easy fan, premade and promade fans 0.05 / 0.07 / 0.10.

0.05 vs 0.07

Direct answer: 0.05mm is the standard volume diameter — lighter per lash, so a 5D or 6D fan stays within safe weight. 0.07mm is heavier per lash, reads darker, and is used for 2D–5D light-volume fans and for most premade fans (it is our premade bestseller). If a client asks for "volume that still looks soft", the artist reaches for 0.05; if they ask for "a dark, defined line without going full classic", 0.07.

• Weight per fan: a 6D fan in 0.05 weighs roughly what a 3D fan weighs in 0.07 — thickness scales weight faster than lash count does.
• Look: 0.07 gives more visible individual lashes; 0.05 gives a softer, fuller texture.
• Stocking: a private-label starter range normally carries both, with 0.05 in loose volume trays and 0.07 in premade fans.

0.03 vs 0.05 — when mega volume is the job

0.03mm (and 0.02mm) exist for one reason: fans of 9D–20D. At that lash count only the thinnest diameters keep the fan light enough for the natural lash. They are hand-fanned, not premade, and they demand more skill — so most brands stock them for their mega-volume artists rather than as an everyday tray. 0.05 remains the better default for 3D–8D work.

0.10 vs 0.12 vs 0.15 — choosing a classic diameter

• 0.10mm — the lightest classic option, for fine or sparse natural lashes where 0.15 would be too heavy. Also produced as a fan diameter.
• 0.12mm — mainstream classic; natural definition on an average natural lash.
• 0.15mm — the traditional classic diameter; the most defined everyday look.
• 0.18 · 0.20mm — bold classic for strong natural lashes only; kept on the menu for dramatic sets and special occasions, not as a default.

Pairing thickness with curl

Thickness sets the weight; curl sets the lift. The pairings studios order most from us: volume 0.05 and 0.07 in C, CC and D; classic 0.12 and 0.15 in C and D; correction curls L, LC and M in light diameters, because a strong lift on a heavy lash reads harsh. Ordering thickness under your own brand

• Minimums: 100 trays per order, 5 trays per specification. A specification is one thickness × curl × length; a mixed-length tray counts as one specification. A starter range of 0.05, 0.07 and 0.12 in C and D curl is six specifications — 30 trays at the per-spec minimum, inside an order that reaches 100 trays.
• Rows per tray: 16 rows is the Europe/US standard; 12 is the older entry format, 18 differentiates, 20 is the fuller tray. Row count and thickness together set the tray price.
